Has anyone noticed how popular American actress, Kerry Washington, and her husband Nigerian born former American footballer, Nnamdi Asomugha, have been giving every one family goals recently?
The couple recently welcomed their second child a son named Caleb Kelechi Asomugha and since then, their family has been in the news for very positive reasons.
You see, even though both Kerry and Nnamdi live in America, they have adopted the Nigerian culture when raising their children. Just check out the names their kids have. Their first child is named Isabelle Amarachi Asomugha and you already know the name of their newborn. Did you notice the kids both have Igbo names?
This is in a time where Nigerians living in Nigeria are naming their kids ‘Aragorn’ and ‘Lily Flower’. It is very commendable.
Kerry has also embraced her role as a true Naija wife and even has an Igbo name, Ogechi. It was given to her by her mother in law after her wedding. She explained how she felt about it in an interview.
“Nnamdi’s parents are Nigerian immigrants. His father passed when he was young. When you marry into the Igbo culture, you get a new name. My name is Ogechi. I wear it on a necklace my mother-in-law gave me,” she said.
Despite her superstar status, Kerry hasn’t shied away from accepting Nigerian culture with open arms. This trait is something many Nigerians need to adopt.
